Lovable Review: Pricing, Credits and Who It Suits (October 2026)

Quick answer: Lovable is the easiest AI app builder I have used for small tools. You describe what you want, and it builds a working app that looks good and that you can drop into any website. I built two race pace calculators with it that are still live. The catch is credits. Every message costs one, and on a bigger project they go fast. For calculators, quizzes and first versions of an app, it is excellent. For a full website you will keep growing, I moved on.
I am not reviewing this from a feature list. I have used Lovable, Bolt and Replit, then moved to Cursor, and now build everything in Claude Code. This is what Lovable was like to build with, plus what has changed since.

What I Built With Lovable
I first used Lovable around spring 2025, on the free plan. The two things I built that are still running are calculators for a running and HYROX coaching client:
- The HYROX race pace calculator, which works out target splits for singles, doubles and relays.
- A race pace calculator for road races.
Both live on lovable.app addresses and are embedded into an ordinary WordPress page. You can still see the Edit with Lovable badge on them, because the badge only goes on a paid plan.
That use case is where Lovable is at its best. A calculator is a single job with clear inputs and outputs. Lovable builds it, hosts it and gives you a link to embed, and you never touch a server.
What It Is Like to Build With
The interface is the best thing about it. When I first opened it, it was obvious what to do. You type what you want, a preview builds on the right, and you keep talking to it until it is right.
At the time, the free plan gave me 5 prompts a day. So I got into a habit that I still recommend. Before opening Lovable, I would get ChatGPT to help me write one long, detailed prompt covering the whole tool: what it does, every input and output, the layout and the style. Then I pasted that in and tried to build the whole thing in one go.
It usually got 90% of the way there. There would be a small bug or two, and fixing them used up the rest of the day's credits. That is the shape of Lovable on a budget: the first build is impressive, and the fixes are where the credits go.
The models have improved a lot since then, so the same credits go further now. The daily allowance on the free plan is still 5.
Pricing and Credits
| Plan | Monthly | Billed annually | Credits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | £0 | £0 | 5 a day, up to 30 a month, plus 20 Cloud credits |
| Pro | £22 | £19 a month | 100 a month, plus 5 a day |
| Business | £44 | £37 a month | 100 a month, plus 5 a day |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Volume based |
Both paid plans scale in credit tiers up to 10,000 credits a month. On Pro, 200 credits is £37 a month billed annually. If you run out, top-ups cost $15 for 50 credits on Pro and $30 for 50 on Business, and they last 12 months.
How long credits last:
- Daily credits expire at the end of each day.
- Monthly credits roll over for one month, so they are gone two months after they arrive.
- Top-ups last 12 months.
The free plan now lets you keep projects private, which it did not always do. What it still does not give you: a custom domain, the ability to edit or download the code, or removing the badge.
If you are a student or teacher, there is 50% off Pro for up to 12 months. I have listed every discount that works on my Lovable promo code page.
GitHub and Lock-in
This is the part I had wrong in my head, so it is worth being precise.
I remembered Lovable as letting you pull from GitHub but not push to it. When I checked Lovable's changelog for this review, two-way sync was already there in early 2025. Changes you make in Lovable push to GitHub, and changes pushed to the connected branch come back into Lovable. It is on every plan, including free.
What Lovable cannot do, then or now:
- Import a repository you already have. It only exports. You start in Lovable or not at all.
- Connect more than one repository to a project.
- Reconnect to the same repository after disconnecting. It makes a new one.
So you can leave, and your code comes with you. But Lovable is built around starting there, building there and hosting there, and paid features like downloading code and custom domains sit behind the subscription. That is the pull I felt. Combined with paying per message, it is why I never built a full website on it.
If you do move a project out, Lovable's own docs cover hosting on Vercel, Netlify and Cloudflare Pages. Projects started since 13 May 2026 run on TanStack Start, so they need hosting that can run server code.
Lovable vs Bolt and Replit
I tried all three. When I did, Lovable produced the best-looking apps out of the box, with better styling and animation than either.
| Lovable | Bolt | Replit | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Entry paid plan | Pro, $25 a month (£22 in the UK) | Pro, $25 a month | Core, $20 a month |
| Free plan | 5 credits a day, up to 30 a month | 300K tokens a day, 1M a month | Daily Agent credits, one free app that goes down after 30 days |
| What it is best at | Good-looking apps quickly | Fast builds in the browser | Apps with more back-end logic |
I have not tried Base44, so it is not in this table.
What I Do Not Like
- Paying per message. Every fix costs credits. A build that needs ten rounds of tweaks costs ten times a build that works first time, and on a real project the tweaks never stop.
- You start there or nowhere. No importing an existing codebase.
- Custom domains and code downloads are paid. Fine for embedding a tool, limiting for anything you want to own outright.
- It gets harder as projects grow. The bigger the app, the more each change can break something else, and the more credits a fix takes.
Who Lovable Suits
Good fit:
- You need a calculator, quiz, form or small tool to embed on a website.
- You want a working first version of an app to show people.
- You are not a developer and want something that looks finished.
- You are a student or teacher and can get Pro at half price.
Pick something else if:
- You are building a full website or product you will keep changing for months.
- You already have code in a GitHub repository you want to work on.
- You are comfortable in a code editor and want to stop paying per message. That is where I ended up, and I explain why in Lovable vs Claude Code.
If what you want to build is an online shop, start with a proper store platform. My Shopify UK review covers why I still use Shopify for every e-commerce build.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Lovable any good?
For small tools and first versions of apps, yes. It is the easiest AI builder I have used, and the two calculators I built with it are still live. For bigger projects the credits add up.
How much does Lovable cost in the UK?
Pro is £22 a month or £19 a month billed annually. Business is £44 or £37 billed annually. Both include 100 credits a month. There is a free plan with 5 credits a day.
Is Lovable free?
Yes, with 5 credits a day up to 30 a month. Custom domains, code downloads and removing the badge need a paid plan.
Can you export your code from Lovable?
Yes. Two-way GitHub sync is on every plan. Downloading the code needs a paid plan. You cannot import an existing repository.
Is Lovable better than Bolt or Replit?
When I tried all three, Lovable's apps looked the best with the least effort. Prices are similar, from $20 to $25 a month.
Does Lovable work with Shopify?
Yes. Lovable can build a storefront on Shopify for a new or existing store. Shopify currently gives stores created through AI tools a four-month trial.
The Verdict
Lovable is the tool I would hand to someone who has never built anything and needs a calculator on their website by Friday. It is quick and the result looks finished.
It is not where I build now. Paying per message suits small, finished tools. It does not suit a website or product that changes every week. For that I moved to Cursor, and then to Claude Code.
