What real Octopus Business Energy customers say
Octopus Energy business referral code: £75 credit each for business and charity switches, verified August 2026

Verified August 2026 against Octopus's own refer-a-business page. Octopus pays £75 credit to both sides when a business or charity switches through a referral link. That is £150 split in total, half again as much as the £50 home rate. No code to type: the referral runs on personal links, and Octopus confirms the same link covers home and business switches.

Looking for an Octopus Energy business referral code? Here is the quick answer: there is no code. Octopus runs its business referrals on the same personal links as its home scheme, and when a business or charity switches through one, both sides get £75 credit. The business gets £75 off its energy, the referrer gets £75 off theirs, £150 split between the two.

I have been an Octopus home customer for years and readers of this site switch through my link most weeks, so I know the scheme from the referrer's side inside out. This page covers the business tier specifically: who qualifies, how the £75s get paid, and the two things most of the pages ranking for this search still get wrong.

The mechanics mirror the home scheme, which I break down fully in my Octopus Energy referral code guide. The business or charity clicks a referral link, completes a switch to an Octopus business account, and once the switch has completed and the first payment has cleared, both accounts are credited. The money arrives as energy credit on the account, not as cash.

Two claims you will see elsewhere that are out of date:

  1. "The business referral pays £100." It did previously. Octopus moved the rate to £75 each, and its refer-a-business page now states the current terms plainly: £150 to share between you, £75 for you and £75 for them. Sites still advertising £100 have not re-checked.
  2. "Businesses must send the code by email or phone." Octopus's own business referral help article says referring a business works the same as referring any customer: you just share your personal referral link. If a business does sign up by phone instead, mention the referrer during sign-up, and if a referral gets missed, Octopus support has a good track record of applying it retrospectively when you ask promptly.

Who qualifies for the £75 rate

The business tier covers any organisation switching to an Octopus business account:

  • Sole traders with premises billed as non-domestic
  • Limited companies, from one-person operations to proper payrolls
  • Charities, which get the same £75 rate as businesses

The £75 attaches per account that switches, not per meter or per site. And on the other side of the deal, any Octopus customer can be the referrer. You do not need a business account yourself; a home customer's link earns the £75 just the same when a business switches through it.

How to claim the £75 (step by step)

  1. Get a referral link from an existing Octopus customer. Any customer, home or business. If you do not know one, you are welcome to use mine: share.octopus.energy/ideal-spark-243.
  2. Click the link first, then start your business quote. Clicking is what attaches the referral. Enter your postcode and usage, or let Octopus estimate from a recent bill.
  3. Accept the quote and confirm the switch. Octopus deals with your old supplier directly. Supply never cuts out, and the switch takes about 2 to 3 weeks.
  4. Let the first payment clear. The £75s are released once the switch has completed and the first payment has gone through, not at the moment you sign up.
  5. Check the balance. About four weeks after joining, the credit shows on the business's account, and the referrer sees their £75 on theirs.

If you switch through a comparison site instead of a referral link, the referral never attaches and neither side gets paid. Go through the link directly.

Working from home? You probably want the £50 home referral instead

Worth being clear about, because this is my own situation. I run Glide Marketing from a home office, and my energy is a normal residential Octopus tariff. That is the right setup for most home-based businesses: if your property has a domestic meter and most of the energy use is household, you stay on a domestic tariff, and the referral that applies to you is the £50 home one, not the £75 business one.

Business energy tariffs are for premises billed as non-domestic: offices, shops, workshops, units. They are quoted differently (per-business pricing, usually fixed-term contracts) and VAT is handled differently too, so moving a home office onto one is rarely worth it even where it is possible.

So a quick sorting exercise:

  • Home office, domestic meter: use the home scheme. My Octopus Energy referral code guide has the full walkthrough, £50 each side.
  • Dedicated business premises, or a charity with its own building: you are the £75 tier, and this page is for you.
  • Not sure which you are: whoever bills your energy now will tell you in one line whether the supply is domestic or non-domestic.

Is Octopus any good for business energy?

I will not pretend to review a business tariff I am not on; my Octopus experience is as a long-term home customer, and on that side it has been the best supplier I have used. The wider evidence points the same way. Octopus holds a 4.8 Trustpilot score from more than 830,000 reviews, and in the latest Citizens Advice quarterly star rating it scores 3.67 out of 5, in the top handful of UK suppliers for customer service.

For businesses specifically, Octopus offers fixed and flexible tariffs, renewable electricity as standard, and quotes through its business site once you have clicked a referral link. Pricing depends on your usage and contract length, so compare the quote against your renewal letter the same way you would any supplier. The £75 credit is a nice welcome; the quote still has to stand on its own.

How I use the Octopus referral scheme

I switched my home to Octopus years ago and the referral scheme has quietly become a proper side income. In the first week of August 2026 alone, nine readers switched through my link, which is £450 in energy credit. Those were home switches at £50 each; every business switch pays £75 instead, so the business tier is the best value referral Octopus runs, and hardly anyone writing about it has the current numbers right.

If you run a business and you are switching anyway, the £75 each is as close to free money as energy gets. And if you are an Octopus customer who knows business owners, your own link is sitting in your app dashboard earning nothing. Share it when someone moans about their renewal quote.

While you are sorting the utilities side of your business admin, my guide to the best UK business bank accounts covers the same ground for banking, several of those come with switch bonuses too.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the Octopus Energy business referral?

£75 credit each, £150 split in total. The business or charity gets £75 off its energy and the referrer gets £75 off theirs. Verified against Octopus's refer-a-business page in August 2026.

Do I need a special business referral code?

No. Octopus retired typed codes; everything runs on personal links, and Octopus confirms the same link covers home and business referrals. Click the link before you start the quote and the referral attaches.

Can a home customer refer a business?

Yes. Octopus says referring a business works the same as referring any customer. Your personal link earns the £75 whether you are on a home or business account yourself.

Do charities get the £75?

Yes, charities switching to an Octopus business account get exactly the same £75-each terms as businesses.

When does the credit arrive?

After the switch completes and the first payment clears. Allow about four weeks from sign-up. It lands as credit on the Octopus account and comes off future bills.

Was the business referral £100?

Previously, yes. Octopus moved it to £75 each, and pages still advertising £100 are out of date. The refer-a-business page has the current terms.

Is there a cap?

No. Every business referral pays £75 and every home referral pays £50, with no limit on either. For how the home side works, see my Octopus Energy refer a friend breakdown.

I work from home. Which referral applies to me?

Almost certainly the £50 home one, because a home office on a domestic meter stays on a residential tariff. The £75 tier is for premises billed as non-domestic.

Ready to claim your £75?

If your business or charity is switching energy supplier, use a referral link and both sides get £75:

share.octopus.energy/ideal-spark-243

Click the link, quote your premises, and confirm the switch. The £150 split lands as £75 on your account and £75 on mine, and you end up at a supplier with a 4.8 Trustpilot score. If you have questions about how the scheme works in practice, reach out and I will give you a straight answer.
